South Evergreen Schoolhouse

Saving an important piece of history

South Evergreen Schoolhouse  -  Donations

Anna and Howard Sarber purchased and donated the above bell.

We now have a bell for the belfry at South Evergreen.  Looks to be just what the doctor ordered.  It is a heavy 20 inch bell with a pleasing ring tone.  A school bell originally from the one room school in Ada, Michigan; called Grove Lake School, located at 36th Street and Quiggle Road.

Nancy Hazekamp donated these three desks to the South Evergreen schoolhouse.

We would like to thank everyone listed above for their support in saving the South Evergreen Schoolhouse.

This list consists of all donors who contributed prior to March 31, 2015.  Their contributions provided the funds used to purchase and re-roof the schoolhouse.  A plaque with the above names is displayed in the Polkton Township Office at 6900 Arthur Street, Coopersville, MI.

Any and all contributions received after March 31, 2015 are designated for the restoration of the schoolhouse.  A complete list of donors that includes the above donors plus those who have donated after March 31, 2015 can be found on the “Donors List” page of this website.

Donations needed:

We are looking for a picture of Abraham Lincoln to hang on the wall in the schoolhouse along with the picture of George Washington we already have. Most schoolhouses of the past displayed picture of these two Presidents. If you would be willing to donate a Lincoln picture to the school we would sincerely appreciate the gift. We are looking for a picture that is about 20” x 30” unframed.

We also are looking for the “ABCs” that illustrated good penmanship and hung above the chalkboards in schools of time past. If you would like to donate to the school please contact us at info@southevergreenschool.com. Thank you!
